Deep Cleanings - treatment for gum disease
Among the causes for gum (periodontal) disease are genetic susceptibility, smoking, and other illnesses like diabetes. A deep cleaning involves removing plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. What can start out as gingivitis (inflamed or bleeding gums) can quickly turn into periodontitis which is affecting not only your gums, but the bone support around teeth. It can also lead to prolonged bad breath, loose teeth, painful chewing and other complications.
Diagnosing Gum Disease
We screen for this disease once a year on all adult patients. If a deep cleaning is necessary, we will let you know and plan for treatment. With the addition of a numbing gel placed on your gums, this procedure can be very comfortable for all patients. Let our hygienist give your mouth the fresh start it needs and give you the tools and information you need to maintain your new healthy mouth.
We do our best to take care of our patients at our office but occasionally there is a need to see a gum specialist, or periodontist. If we feel the best way to get you healthy is to start there, then we can assist you in the referral process.
